HS Vocal Music
High School
Greetings! My name is Travis Balt, and I have the privilege of serving as the High School Choir Director at MOC-Floyd Valley High School. I currently serve students in Grades 9-12 directing Mixed Choir (Freshmen Choir), Concert Choir (Sophomores-Seniors), and the MOC-Floyd Valley Chamber Singers (Auditioned 9-12). In addition, I serve as Co-Director for the Fall Musical.
A little about me:
I am a ’14 alum of MOC-Floyd Valley High School and grew up in Hospers, Iowa. Music was always a big part of my life as I participated in Choir, String Orchestra, and Band and all of the extra ensembles. In addition, I was on Student Council, NHS, and I participated in Quiz Bowl and Speech & Drama.
After MOC-Floyd Valley, I went on to continue my education at the University of Sioux Falls majoring in Music Education and Music (Vocal Emphasis). I always knew that I had a passion for music and people as originally I wanted to be a music therapist, but I found that education and working with young people were a passion of mine as well. There I sang around the world with the USF Concert Chorale. In 2018, I completed my student teaching at Roosevelt High School and Sonia Sotomayor Spanish Immersion Elementary in Sioux Falls, and graduated from USF summa cum laude.
After USF, I started my teaching career in Sioux Falls at Bishop O’Gorman Catholic Schools teaching Elementary Vocal Music (PS-6th Grade) and Orchestra (4th-6th). In 2020 (year of COVID), I took a leap of faith and moved to Webster City, Iowa and taught at Webster City Middle School teaching General Music (5th-8th), Digital Learning (8th), and Choir (7th-8th).
I am so excited to be back at my roots here at MOC-Floyd Valley, and I am so excited to be working with amazing students and staff at the High School and School District.
