Thirst for Knowledge: MOC-FV Quiz Bowl

At MOC-Floyd Valley, the Dutch Quiz Bowl team is where a love for learning and teamwork meet. It’s a community centered on acquiring knowledge together and encouraging one another in that pursuit.

What It Entails

Our Dutch quiz bowl squads compete in tournaments with schools across northwest Iowa answering questions from a variety of categories:

  • History – ancient civilizations to modern happenings
  • Literature – short stories, poetry, classics, plays, and modern classics
  • Science – concepts from botany, biology, chemistry, physics, and astronomy
  • Math – algebra, geometry, trigonometry, statistics, and story problems
  • Fine Arts – masterpieces from the realms of art, music, and theatre
  • Geography – global landmarks
  • Current Events & Entertainment – newsworthy events, sports legends, and box office hits

Teams of four players take “the field” at a time. Each game consists of three rounds, and each round offers something different to the team. Round 1 involves individual work, Round 2 is individual and team work, and Round 3 is all teamwork.

In quiz bowl, team members never know what is going to be covered in a meet. Practice consists of team members working on their own, in pairs, and in teams to learn a wide range of information.

Join the team

Quiz bowl is open to any MOC-Floyd Valley student who wants to learn, enjoys a challenge, and have fun. We value the contribution that each person brings to our team and would love to have you join us!
